New 2017 RAM 1500 at Lakeland Chrysler Jeep Dodge for Greenville, PA

The Ram 1500 truck line has a very well-liked and much-awarded history, and is currently the only half-ton pickup in the segment with an available diesel engine. The consolidation of previous transmissions rewards drivers with a refined 8-speed automatic. For 2017, cabin air-filters are added standard on all trims, and the Sport trim adds a remote start and a security alarm. The Bighorn trim gains automatic temperature control for 2017. The Laramie Longhorn model implements as standard SmartBeam technology, wipers that are rain-sensing, LED truck bed lighting, and the Keyless Go feature. That's a lot of new items on top of an already smartly designed light-duty pickup truck.

Under the 1500's Hood

There is a smart eight-speed automatic transmission involved with the drivetrain on the 1500, and a 3.6-liter gasoline V6 on the other end of it. That standard engine is rated at 305 horsepower and 269 pound-feet of torque. A rear-wheel drive install is also standard, or owners can elect either one of the two available 4WD systems. Both robust and rugged 4WD systems possess a two-speed transfer case and utilize low-range gearing for better off-road handling. Standard on the Limited, Laramie Longhorn, and Sport models is a 5.7-liter V8 that acquires 395 horsepower and 410 lb-ft of torque (an option on all besides the HFE model). On the HFE model is the standard EcoDiesel engine, a turbocharged 3.0-liter diesel V6 that earns 240 horsepower and 420 lb-ft of torque. The EcoDiesel is electable as an option on all except the Sport, Express, and Rebel models. That's three powerful engines to choose from, on ten different model variations-- a solid offering for a truck these days. The V8 will tow up to 10,640 pounds, and that's quite remarkable for a light-duty truck in general. A gas Ram 1500 with the V6 engine can tow up to 7,610-lbs (properly equipped), and the diesel V6 can tow up to 9,210-lbs. Every model will have rear five-link coil springs and twin-tube shocks, and the Rebel will have standard, in addition to that, an Active-level, 4-corner air suspension system.

Design of RAM 1500

There are 10 models to navigate through, all with significant functional and appearance differences: the Tradesman, Limited, Big Horn/Lone Star, Express, Rebel, Laramie, HFE, SLT, Sport and the Laramie Longhorn. The Ram 1500 has two Uconnect touchscreen sizes to decide on, either 5-inches or 8.4-inches, and is a heavily-relied upon feature for information, connectivity, and passenger entertainment. Bluetooth, keyless entry and ignition, voice controls, smartphone integration, remote start, power-adjustable pedals, and a Wi-Fi hotspot all make their presence known inside the cabin of the Ram 1500. The Rebel is here exclusively in a crew cab and a 5-foot-7-inch bed configuration. The Rebel model's features also contain front and rear Bilstein performance shock absorbers (all other models are heavy-duty rated), tow hooks, 17-inch wheels, anti-spin differential, all-terrain tires, keyless entry, black fender flares, LED fog-lights, and the available RamBox storage on-the-go system.  All models rock a 6-speaker sound system except the Limited, Laramie, and Laramie Longhorn, which have the available option of the Premium II package which has an Alpine audio deck with nine speakers, plus a subwoofer and 12-channel amplifier!
