Water Park Road Trips

Water Park Road Trips

As temperatures soar into the nineties, many families are looking for ways to stay cool and have fun. Fortunately for those in the general Pittsburgh area, aquatic adventures are within driving distance. You can float down a lazy river, make a splash in Olympic sized pools or whisk down water slides. You can travel to a neighboring county or city to find the best water parks Pennsylvania has to offer. Here are our top five picks.

Cranberry Community Water Park:  Recently renovated, Cranberry Community Waterpark features a 120-foot water slide, tube slide, water climbing wall, dump bucket and zero-depth entry pool. You can even reserve your own private sun deck.

Idlewild & Soak Zone: Head to Ligonier to dive into Soak Zone. You can twist and turn down the Pipeline Plunge or race your family headfirst on the Hydro Racers. If you need an escape, you can stretch out on an inner tune and float down Float Away Bay. The park also offers 280,600 gallons of fun at the Wowabunga Family Wave Pool.

Pirates Cove Waterpark at Conley Resort: Take a trip to Butler and walk the plank at Pirate's Cove at Conley. The family-friendly water park features two swimming pools, a hot tub and a pirate's ship with a cannon. Make it a mini-vacation and spend the night at the resort.

Sandcastle: Sandcastle boosts 15 waterslides, the Mon Tsunami Wave Pool, a scenic Mushroom Pool, a relaxing lazy river, and two children's area. When you step into the park, you step onto a boardwalk, which make you feel like you're taking a vacation without even leaving your city.

Splash Lagoon: Splash Lagoon made a splash nationwide when listed as one of America's Top Indoor Water Parks. Visitors can zoom down nine water slides, climb the Tree Tops Ropes Course, float down the Lazy River, catch a wave in the largest wave pool in the Eastern United States and spin in the new Aqua Tumbler.

No matter what park you pick, be sure to bring along lots of towels and sunscreen. Call ahead to see if the water park allows children to wear floating devices or goggles.
